Atomic Tuesday: Star Light, Star Bright.

Welcome back to Atomic Tuesday!

Photobucket

Is everyone (at least everyone here in the US) ready for turkey day? Not me. (Although I'm sure you're admiring my delightfully creepy and altogether disturbing banner I'm using for Thanksgiving week.) I'm already over thanksgiving and thinking about Christmas. So for today's Atomic Tuesday I've been looking around at tacky/kitschy/fantastical vintage ornaments and found *thee* perfect trio for you starburst-heads:

Photobucket

Love! But I will offer this word of wisdom (only because I've recently been duped myself)~ ever since Target started repro-ing atomic and starburst-y shaped ornaments over the past few years, it's getting harder and harder to believe that what's being sold as "vintage" on places like Etsy and Ebay is actually so and not, in fact, a clever Target facsimile. Don't get me wrong, that's not to say this set isn't vintage or that the seller is anything but truthful and a good seller at that- (although I don't have any connection to or know the seller from a hole in the wall)- I'm just sayin', a girl's gotta be careful out there these days. You never know when a bad ornament is gonna sneak up on you and try to pass itself off as a good one in a dark back alley one night. Just sayin'.

Either way, this set *is* definitely cool and I would totally keep these out on display year 'round, wouldn't you? (Yeeeah, I knew ya would!) Super rad Vintage Space Age Ornament Trio is currently available for a very decent $11.99 from seller Tipple & Snack. Which now makes me want a snack. And the seller also offers some fun vintage kitchen items. Well played, shopkeep, well played.

Atomic Tuesday: Knock Me On My (gl)Ass!

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday!

I have no words for today's vintage pick. I can't...I just can't. No words to describe. Oh wait. Yes I do. Words like: "JUMPING JESUS ON A TRAMPOLINE, LOOK AT THESE GLASSES! HOT DAMN AND HOLY MOSES RIDING A SCOOTER! MAMA LIKEY. MAMA LIKEY ALOT! 7t@@#4@/8**!" (Yeah, there's some gibberish in there too. That's how much I love today's pick and the ridonkulous affect they have on me.) They'll knock you on your (gl)ass too, I bet!

See for thyself:

How much do you love these Vintage 50's Set of 8 Pink & Gold Atomic Starburst Glasses? And if you prefer your glasses to, say, have pictures of the Hamburgler and Mayor McCheese, swearing one day that your 1986 McDonald's juice glasses are certain to be top-dollar collectors items one day, well, then good luck with that. (Although, those kinda rock, too.)

(Glasses are currently available on Etsy from seller Patsy's Place.)

Atomic Tuesday: I'm On A (Cassa)-Role!

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday, where the vintage is good and the puns in my titles are bad. I've got to be in & out today (I know, I'm boring lately, I'll make it up to you at some point, unless I forget), as we're getting an ass-whopping of snow (I don't know what that means exactly), and I have loads of shipping to do and loads of junk food to stock up (I mean tofu and bean sprouts). So let's make this quick! (That's what he said.) (Sorry.) (Apparently it's "Have a Second Dialogue in Parenthesis Like That Crazy Cat Lady Down the Street Who Yells at Fire Hydrants Day.) (Again, sorry.)

Today's atomic-themed pick is this superbad Vintage 50's Atomic Starburst Hearts Pyrex Casserole Dish:

(Makes reading through the gibberish worth it, eh?! If you made it to this point, you should get a major award. Like coming over and shoveling snow for me. What a treat for you, no?)

Atomic Tuesday: ShaNaNa NaNa Na NaNa Na, ShaNaNa NaNa

"Hey there, groovy chicks. You're all hep in far out ways!" It's Atomic Tuesday here, and I'm thinking it's a Brady Bunch kind of day. Something I didn't think I'd ever say, (let alone on Atomic Tuesday!), because let's face it, the Brady's are the most annoying bunch of butt-kissing, brown-nosing, goodie-goodie, straight-A's-getting, pain in the asses. Yet, they too are hep in a far-out, retro kind of way now, so I'm not hatin'. (Except Jan and her stupid knee socks and personality crisis. And Cindy with her awkward, ignored lisp. And Mike with his sexy white dude 'fro. And Carol with her intoxicating mullet. And ... you know? Let's move on.)

So I came across these vintage 60's/70's Orange & Green Starburst Plastic Drinking Glasses and I felt the Brady inspiration.

I love that the name of these plastic cups is "hi-kool glass":

I love when things are spelled "kool". It's like they're trying really hard to convince you that it's got mad street cred and totally awesome, just because it's spelled in a hep, far-out way. Don't they remind you of the Brady's kitchen somehow? Speaking of glasses, I also feel inspired to say: "Glasses?! Oh, no, mom! Not glasses! They'll make me look absolutely positively goofy!"

Atomic Tuesday: Kiss My Ash.

It's Atomic Tuesday, kiddies!

And this week's atomic find is this Vintage Set of 2 Star Glow by Royal China Ashtrays.

Political correctness, to hell with you I say! I love vintage ashtrays and collect them when I can score them for a song and a dance, which is becoming less frequent these days it seems. Has smoking gotten such a bad rep that people just throw out their old ashtrays, assuming no one smokes anymore? Firstly, I would never use an ashtray as cool as this, with it's starburst-y goodness, as an actual ashtray. It's just too cool to be schmutzed up. But if anyone else chose to, go right ahead, what the hell do I care? Smoke 'em if you got 'em, I say. Secondly, do people forget that you need not be a smoker to like vintage ashtrays? They have a plethora of other uses, such as holding spare change and that random key or single button that you just can't bring yourself to throw out because you just know one day you'll find the shirt that's missing that very same button and you'll eventually figure out that the key is actually a spare you had made because you kept losing them to your '86 Honda Civic, which you haven't even owned for 15 years but what a great feeling it is to finally figure it out and throw it away after all this time. You see where I'm going with this, right?

Atomic Tuesday: What A Card!

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday!

Today's pick is this set of Retro Mid-Century Modern Atomic Holiday Cards~ it even says "Wishing You a Very Hip Holiday Season" inside! These cards are made by Etsy seller Two Poodle Press. I really dig these cards, in all their unconventional Xmas-iness. (If you replaced the pink with orange, they'd be in my all-time favorite color scheme, FYI.)

And for extra matchy-matchy, she also offers these matching gift tags. Swell!

Atomic Tuesday: A Star Is Worn

Howdy, kids! Ready for this week's Atomic Tuesday? I thought so. I know you so well.

It's a little late coming to you today, but I had a Very Important phone interview with a Very Important person this afternoon and so I'm a bit behind on, well, stuff. Exciting! Zing! Wee! Huzzah! (Enter any other annoying sounds a person makes when they're happy, X here X.) I'll be sure to post about my interview with a link to where it's published when I get the go-ahead to do so. In the meantime, I can tell you that I got to ramble on about 1950's juvenile delinquent fashion & style--which is considered "rockabilly" by modern comparison, minus all the questionable dice and cherries and bowling shirts with martini glasses on them. Not that I'm anti repro clothing, in fact there are good aspects of repro fashion lines (such as offering a wide availability of sizes that otherwise would be hard to obtain in vintage clothing)- but I just don't dig when certain companies bastardize an entire decade into a generic fashion cliche that isn't even all that accurate to begin with, making the whole era seem like it spewed forth from the bowels of the set of Grease. I digress. Moving forward.

Today's atomic pick is this Vintage 50's Aqua Atomic Starburst Dress.

It's too cool, right? Dig the closeup!:

Atomic Tuesday: Little Star

Photobucket

Welcome to this week's Atomic Tuesday! I haven't featured anything very glitzy or girlie or glam-ish in a while, so today's atomic theme is all about...well...glitzy, girlie, glam-ish things. How's that for descriptive? (Sigh. I'm not so creative with the words this morning, apparently.) Today's feature is the vintage 50's/60's starburst-y pin. Or "brooch" if you're of the fancy persuasion, which I am not. It's a pin. And fab ones, at that! So let's get this party bus on the road, shall we?
(What?! Sigh. I'm going back to bed.)

Photobucket

vintage enamel gold swirly starburst pin.

Photobucket

She wore bluuuuuue....rhinestones vintage atomic pin. (Was that too heavy on the cheese? I bet you're singing it in your head now, aren't you? That is my gift to you.)

Photobucket

vintage gold sputnik-y starburst pin.

Photobucket

vintage rhinestone highly atomic pin. Now that looks like the closest thing to an atomic symbol I've seen in a long time! Swell!

Photobucket

vintage asymmetrical rhinestone starburst pin. Oh man. This one's my favorite of the bunch! "Meet George Jetson..." is stuck in my head now. Yours too? You're welcome.

Photobucket

vintage big ol' explosion of rhinestones pin, in my current favorite color combo of aqua and green! Plus, it looks like one of those poisonous, under-the-ocean plants that tricks fish into thinking it's just a pretty plant and then-POW!-it eats it. I'm not sure if it's healthy that I think that way.

Photobucket

Speaking of poisonous sea critters, this vintage beaded spikey earring & pin set also looks like some demonic sea creature. Sea urchin? Deadly pufferfish? Undersea mines? All this talk of explosives and venomous spikey death fish has made me randy. Paging Dr. Freud.

Atomic Tuesday: Time After Time

Photobucket

Welcome to another Atomic Tuesday! Today's theme is all about time~ the not having enough of it, the how fast it passes you by, the "holy crap, how is it the middle of July already, more than half of the year is over, dude you'll never believe that I bought my first Xmas present for someone already, and my birthday is creeping up closer and closer, hot damn I'm getting old, oh dear god make it stop, WHY WON'T YOU MAKE IT STOP?!" Yeah. Time. It's not on your side. And I'm not a fan.

So without wasting any more of this precious commodity, I give you this week's Atomic Tuesday time theme~ a must-have staple of any mid-century modern home decor, a little cliche but a whole lot of cool: the vintage 50's/60's starburst clock!

Photobucket

Vintage Ingraham Electric Starburst Clock. Comes with its original box, too!

Photobucket

If silver is more your speed, then how's about this Vintage Ingraham Starburst Clock? (It's just like the one above only this one is battery-run.)

Photobucket

Cutesy Vintage Lux Flowerburst Clock, for those who prefer their decor to be on the girlie side!

Photobucket

Vintage United Clock. I love the font of the numbers on this one! They remind me of graphics you'd see in old school bowling alleys from the 50's and 60's. (Ps: I have no idea if calling the style of numbers a "font" is correct. What DO you call it? Whatever. You know what I mean. Right? Right.)

Photobucket

Vintage German-Designed Clock. At first I thought this was heading into shabby chic hell- you know, all sorts of white with that old timey wrought iron garden gate-esque look, but then the more I looked at it, the more those super spikes grew on me and the more my mind wandered into Vlad the Impaler territory, somehow, and now I rather love it. Don't ask. It's just how this mind works.

Photobucket

Vintage United Battery-Run Clock. This one has me perplexed. I do love the circle-y loops at the end of each spike, but I'm not sure how I feel about the scrolly gold leaf design. Clock design shouldn't cause confusion, should it? I'm torn, sad little starburst clock. I want to love you, but you're borderline tacky. Then again, aren't we all? Ok, I'm not mad at you anymore, clock. We're cool.

Atomic Tuesday

Photobucket

Welcome to the first Atomic Tuesday! In keeping with the other themed days around this joint, every Tuesday will now be Atomic Tuesday (play 50's B-movie horror flick creepy organ music here), where I'll post a vintage find with an atomic print, pattern or something vaguely related to something atomic. (I mean really, people, "Atomic Tuesday" pretty much explains it all, doesn't it?)

If you're a seller who has something for sale that fits with any of the theme days (Atomic Tuesdays, Way-Out Wednesdays or My Aqua Blue Heaven Fridays) and you'd like a little free advertising, by all means please let me know and I'll see if I can pimp you out. I takes care of my bitches, yo.

Onward to Atomic Tuesday! Today it's more vintage 50's glasses. I lurve glasses so very much, it's a sickness, sort of. I hope you dig this new theme and remember, tomorrow is Way-Out Wedneday! Theme hint for Wednesday: Can you handle these hooters?
