Way-Out Wednesday: Art & Soul

Welcome to Way-Out Wednesday!

Photobucket

Every once in a while I like to take a break from spotlighting vintage and focus on the handmade/artsy folk, the ones that create something that "moves me" in some way, shape or form. (That sounds cheesy, I know. Work with me and my corniness here, people.)

Today I'm showing original prints from Mari Lowery Photography, all available for super decent prices on Etsy. She takes photos of things in her neighborhood in New York like old store window displays, front yards, kitschy things at Coney Island. You know, pretty random stuff. But it works because of the vintage vibe in her shots: the 50's-esque, grainy and watery colors combined with this sort of underlying dark and slightly creepy edge. Perfect for Way-Out Wednesday! Here are a few of her prints currently available for sale~

Vintage Giveaway Time!

Howdy, kids! I've been a little (read: alot) distracted and MIA lately, but it's summer and I have many balls in the air. (And yes, I *did* just say Balls. In the air. Thank you for noticing.) Be forewarned that my blog posts may be pretty on-and-off for about the next month, but by September everything should be back to normal. (Ish.)

Anyway, as promised some time back, it's long overdue for my "Hot Damn! 300 Followers!" vintage giveaway! So without further whoop-dee-doo, I present you with something vintage. Something 50's. Something pink. It's this Vintage 50's pink & copper Ransberg bread box:

I love that Ransberg's company symbol is an artist's palette, in the form of vent holes in the back! (Yeah, I'm a sucker for wee details like that.) It's not in perfect shape, but works just fine and still looks damn cool sitting out on the counter. It measures about 14" wide and stands 7" high, so it's a decent size. (And have I mnentioned it's PINK?!)

As some of you already know, I've been collecting vintage 50's pink things for 13 years now. Needless to say, I've amassed quite a kickass amount of stuff and some seriously killer pink things along the way. This bread box is one of thee very first pink things I ever bought! But I'm at the point where I'm slowing down buying this stuff and have to start weeding some of it out. But things are just things after all, and when the time comes for it, there's nothing better than passing cool stuff along to equally cool folks that'll appreciate it as much as I did!

There are no rules. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to sign up, including past winners and my international amigos! Just leave a comment, done and done. I'll pick a winner in about 10 days. Good luck and thanks to all of you, new followers and old, for being the coolest kids around!
