Atomic Tuesday: Let's Bake Love

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday! (Thanks to the 3 day weekend, it feels very Monday today, doesn't it? I'm all verklempt and wrong-feeling today!)

Photobucket

First some quick announcements! Don't worry, they're good ones. (But you can still chew your Hubba Bubba and read your Archie comics at the back of the class, I won't tell.)

First: I realise I haven't done a vintage giveaway in a LONG time- not since December. (D'oh!) So stay tuned for one coming up soon- probably this week if I remember or am sober enough. I won't give away any details, but I can tell you the theme is "The Vintage Housewife". (Sorry, no hot pool boy will be included.)

Second: I'm quickly approaching 300 followers, which is both crazy cool and insane to me! Who knew so many of you have masochistic tendencies to like this strange, train wreck of a blog of mine. (And yes, I did just say "crazy cool" because apparently it's 1992 I'm a member of TLC.) Keep following, my homies, because once I get to 300 followers I'm going to do a vintage giveaway of epic proportions! (You know, sort of.) It's something very special from my personal collection of vintage PINK things! I think you'll like it...

Onto Atomic Tuesday!

I'm really into big pops of red lately, which is odd because everything in my house is pink, pink, and ohmygodenoughalready, pink. I don't know if it's these long bouts of rain we've had lately and I'm looking for some kind of cheery escape or if it's because I'm a Scorpio and red is like, our "thing". Or maybe who the hell cares why and just get over it already because red is awesome, end of story? (Yep. That's it.) So today's vintage pick combines both the excellent factor of atomic awesomeness and red. Win/win, I say!

Isn't it the awesomest/ginchiest/raddest/enter-any-slangy-adjective-of-your-choice-here? I adore this Vintage Red Starburst Casserole Baking Dish!

Atomic Tuesday: Hey Bartender, You Make My Heart Surrender

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday!

Photobucket

I've seen- and collected- a lot of vintage barware in my day. And I mean alot. As in: you'd think I was a Kennedy with all this bar and glassware around. Yet it's always exciting to come across a great vintage bar score, like this extra swanktacular Vintage 60's Atomic Starburst Cocktail Set:

Everything about this set is killer: the tripod stand, (the fact that it has a tripod stand), the long, tall pitcher, the gold starbursts, all cool. The set is available on Etsy from seller Atty's Vintage for an even cooler $38. I love it! Now if you'll excuse me, I have some very important cocktails to make. Dishes to do. Laundry to fold. Cocktails to make.

Atomic Tuesday: Shaken. And Stirred.

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday!

Photobucket

You know, I haven't shopped on ebay in about a year. I lost all interest in the place after one too many craptastic purchases from one too many even more craptastic sellers. Plus, the constant "improvements" to the site made me so frustrated and stabby that I ended up turning all my affection to either vintage websites of sellers I know and trust, or to Etsy, where I enjoy the artistic vibe of the place. (Granted, Etsy's no angel either and has it's fair share of problems, glitches and pains-in-the-asses.) Maybe it's just me and I'm a cynical grumpy jerk, but ebay's become my red-headed stepchild. You know, "I don't hate you, but I don't really like you either. Life was simpler when you weren't in it and sometimes I get drunk and yell at you, so I'm sorry about that. Most of the time I regret yelling at you, except for all those times I don't.")

Lucky for me, I happened to catch wind of today's vintage pick from the seller herself! Damn lucky too, or else I never would've found these 4 Yards of Vintage 50's Atomic Boomerang Fabric, currently at auction on ebay (with 2 more days to go) from seller Specialsomethings. It's on my watch list, but I have a feeling it's gonna skyrocket out of my price range (which is generally about 7 dollars and 42 cents.)

Behold:

Photobucket

Boomerangs! Atomic starbursts! Classic color, classic print, and it's vintage! It's a trifecta of vintage fabric perfection. (Or something.) You can make an awful lot of beer bottle cozies with 4 yards! (What? No one makes beer bottle cozies anymore? Pity. Another lost art.) The print reminds me of a martini with onions and olives, somehow. Am I crazy? (Answer that and pay the price.)

Photobucket

See? I bet you get a martini vibe now too, right?! (No? Oh, OK. I'm the crazy one, then.)

Atomic Tuesday: To Serve Man.

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday!

I found thee coolest buffet on Etsy today. There are 2 reasons I'm not hoarding it for myself like the obsessive hoardy-pants that I am. Because:

A.) I'm nowhere even remotely close to Forth Worth, Texas to pick it up in person.

And

B.) I bet the shipping cost to haul this sucker is ridonkulous. Plus I'm way frugal and can talk myself out of most big purchases if I don't absolutely *need* it. Hell, I talk myself out of $9 shoes from Payless.

But if you're in need of a swell vintage buffet and/or live near Forth Worth and/or are a Mr. and/or Mrs. Moneybags and can shell out the clams for shipping, may I submit to your approval, this:

Vintage 50's Atomic Starbursts Buffet Server Table

It's not in perfect shape (hence the $100 price tag), the seller's pictures are not phenom and there's alot of crazy going on with it (makes me wonder how much of it is original and how much has been added/altered?). So I'll explain in short sentences:

Aqua glitter laminate top has black starbursts.

Faux marble clock front. (Really, you ask?! Really. How deliciously odd and unnecessary. My 2 favorite things.) Etched glass sliding doors.

Green sides/front drawers have gold dots and black starbursts.

See what I mean? Lots of crazy- but that's why I dig it! Am I crazy? Have I lost all sense of cool? Am I void of good taste? Probably. But what do you think?

Atomic Tuesday

It's the first Atomic Tuesday of the year! Exciting, indeed. Today I found not 1, but 2 different vintage chunks-o-fabric, both from the same seller on Etsy, both with atomic prints but in 2 different colorways. And they're both freaking sweet.

First, there's this Vintage 50's Pink & Blue Atomic Starbursts Fabric, and I know how much you guys dig the pink and all!...

Or you could go with this Vintage 50's Aqua and Yellow Atomic Starbursts Fabric. I mean, really. How could you not love? I mean, really. Aqua. And. Yellow.

Atomic Tuesday: The How-To's On Decking The Halls

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday! I found this great Vintage 50's Christmas Idea Book on Etsy and had to share. Mostly I'm in love with the atomic starbursts on the cover and the 3tone colors (green, pink, silver? win!):

...but also it makes me wonder if anyone even buys Christmas decorating books anymore? Is there even such a thing in the new book market? It makes me sad that this little book, chock full of marvelous (I'm assuming) holiday decorating ideas, has become a dinosaur in the technology age. What sort of ideas, you ask? With this book, you can learn how to...

...stick balls in wreaths. Ta-da! Impressive! And with this book, you can learn to make your very own...

...Char-Broiled Hickory Smoke Santa. Festive!

Atomic Tuesday: Girls Just Want To Have Lunch

Photobucket

Welcome to this week's Atomic Tuesday! I recently bought a vintage napkin holder- aqua plastic with silver starbursts on it (I know! Could you die of awesome?!) and while tooling around online I found the exact same one, except in white. Sweet. Ok, so it's not exactly the same. Boo! But come on, a starburst-y napkin holder kicks all kinds of ass no matter what color it is, am I right? Sweet. So that inspired me to find more napkin-y goodness. Sadly, there is not what I would call a plethora of them out there. Boo! But I did find a couple pretty cool ones, so I bring you: the vintage napkin holder. And we're back to sweet.

(And PS: "Girls Just want to Have Lunch" is the closest song I could find that was even remotely related to today's theme. Try to find a song about napkins. There are none! Songwriters of the world, what gives, you slackers?! Please don't negate our forgotten household accessories. They play a vital role in kitchen maintenance and deserve our love and respect. This has been a Public Service Announcement from The Girl Can't Help It.)

Photobucket

Vintage 50's Atomic Starburst Napkin Holder. This is the one! This is exactly like the one I just bought myself! I want this one too. Don't needs it, wants it...wants the preciousssss...(if anyone gets that reference, welcome to the Nerd Club I'm not starting!)

Photobucket

Vintage Gold Metal Napkin Holder. A star and a little atomic starburst at the same? Won't the world come to an end as we know it? Like if Clark Kent and Superman showed up at the same place at the same time. Impossible, yes. Exactly my point. (What?)

"Girls Just Want To Have Lunch” by Weird Al Yankovic, of course.

Atomic Tuesday

Photobucket

Welcome to this week's Atomic Tuesday! We schmucks in the northeast have been under a grey skies and rain attack for the past 3 weeks. I kid you not: 3 straight weeks. The Winona-in-Beetlejuice, goth kid inside of me secretly loves it (not so secret now, is it, voices in my head?!), and my grumpy German DNA refuses to let me tan, but go from glow-in-the-dark white to peeled-skin red in about 3 minutes. I'm like a walking nuclear explosion waiting to happen as soon as I see the light of day. I'm a freaking Gremlin. So this 3 week hiatus of sun is a win-win. Only northeasterners aren't exactly the friendliest of people and in fact, I think this section ranks as the grumpiest in all of the USA. (Sorry, PA, NJ, NY, CT, VT, RI, MA, NH, and ME. But at least we win at something. Screw you, charming and lovely citizens of Wisconsin!) And since we're not the nicest lot to begin with, add some crap weather and lack of sunshine and we've lost all will to get motivated and you can only imagine all the sweet going on around here. (Except me. I'm always sweet, dammit. I'll shiv anyone who says otherwise.)

So I found it only fitting to bring coffee into today's atomic-themed mix, because lord knows nothing else is working at this point. Except maybe a Zoloft/Jack Daniels cocktail or 3. Please enjoy these atomic starburst-printed vintage 50's Pyrex coffee carafes, or I swear I will pull this car over, reach back there and give you damn kids what-for. (Looks like it's time for another upper cocktail!)
