Atomic Tuesday: Hello, World, Hear The Song That We're Singin'. C'mon Get Happy!

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday! (And yes, I do realise I forgot all about Prints Charming Sunday, sorry 'bout that.)

Photobucket

Fortunately, when scouting around online to find something to post about for our Atomic Tuesday theme, I came across this super cool, super wacky Vintage 50's Atomic Tablecloth with a mystery print of, like, depressed chickens and Turkish lamps (I dunno, I just made that up. I don't even know what Turkish lamps *are*, but I imagine they're something like what's pictured on this) from seller Neato Keen ...

... UNfortunately, for some reason it reminds me of the opening credits of the Partridge Family tv show, which in turn makes the theme song get stuck in my head, and that, my friends, will not make me "get hap-eee!" (I knew that freakshow Danny Bonaduce was demon spawn. I just knew it.)

Prints Charmning Sunday: Roxanne, You Don't Have To Put On The Red Light

Welcome to Prints Charming Sunday!

Photobucket

Today's vintage novelty print is utterly charming! (I know, it's super lame to call it that, considering today IS, after all, "Prints Charming Sunday", so it's not at all a creative description for it, but I'm telling you, it works. Behold, my good sirs and madams:

Photobucket

And now, let's discuss the print. Not being the fancy-pantsical or superbly well-versed in 19th century playwrights type, I'm not 100% certain but I'm assuming the print is based on "Cyrano de Bergerac"? It sure looks like the scene where the dude with the big-ass schnoz is wooing Roxanne, under the guise of being the hotty hotpants dude. Make sense? I thought not. See for thine selves:

Way-Out Wednesday: Read Between The Lions.

It's Way-Out Wednesday, kids!

Photobucket

I was going to save today's pick for this sunday's "Prints Charming Sunday" theme (being as though what you're about to see is a damn cute novelty print. DAMN CUTE.) However, my toe-curling joy from vintage love could not be contained and therefore must be shared with you now! RIGHT. NOW. And while that sounds borderline filthy (if you didn't read it that way then move along Grandma), I promise today's pick is not borderline filthy. It's a wonderfully dorky and therefore made of the most extreme kind of AWESOME, this Vintage 60's Lion Novelty Print Shift Dress, available on Etsy from seller TMHL:

Photobucket

A lion. Wearing glasses. Reading a book.

Photobucket

Win, win, win and oh my god WIN. Nerds of the world unite! Our time has come. Oh yes. Our time has come. How nerdy am I, exactly? The whole time I wrote today's post, I imagined that the lion's voice probably sounds exactly like the animal kingdom's version of Jerry Lewis's Nutty Professor and how ass-kicking it'd be if there was a cartoon based solely on the Nerd Lion from this dress. That's how nerdy.

Prints Charming Sunday: What A Jackass!

It's the last Prints Charming Sunday for the month! You know what that means, don't you?! ... Well, nothing. Sorry to disappoint with a fake sense of "something good is gonna happen!". Though it feels like something cool should happen, doesn't it? But no.

I figured since I've been showing alot of novelty prints for women lately, it's time the menfolk ... you know, should.. get their dues ... have their day in the sun ...get a mad dope shout-out, yo. Whatever. I fail at popular expressions of teens these days and their love of their jazz records and Tab and Fonzie. Or whatever it is that people say and like these days. (It's painful how hip I am, no?)

So for today's Prints Charming Sunday, it's all about the novelty print- for a man, baby! How stinkin' awesome is this Vintage 50's Donkey Novelty Print Men's Shirt, currently available on Etsy from fab seller Fabs Gabs:

Donkeys? Hell yeah they are! "Burros", to my south of the border amigos. "Jackasses" to my fellow sailor-talking, lovers of swears!

Prints Charming Sunday: My Nuts. Let Me Show You Them.

Well, not actually my nuts, but I wish they were. If they were my nuts, I'd never sell 'em. I'd stash 'em away in my closet, pulling them out once in a while to admire. Maybe take 'em for a spin on a Sunday afternoon once in a while.

I am, of course, talking about this Vintage 50's Nut Novelty Print Toni Todd Dress & Bolero, today's vintage pick for Prints Charming Sunday!

Oh, nuts.

(What did you think I was talking about all this time? Pervs.)

Prints Charming Sunday: Stormy Weather

Welcome to this week's Prints Charming Sunday!

I trust you all had a smashing holiday? Me too! Though, the weekend's been weird, weather-wise, and a bit of a Christmas bummer. We northeasterners were supposed to get ice and sleet, instead it got really warm and rainy. And it's supposed to be crazy cold again this week. What the balls, mother nature? You jerk. Feels more like spring 'round these parts than winter and I gotta say, it makes me pretty stabby. So instead, I'll just ignore it all and eat another Christmas cookie and then bitch about it later that my ass won't cram into my acid-washed Sassoons. (See the joy and mirth in store for you in the future?!)

So to go along with our bi-polar weather, check out this wicked cute Vintage 60's Rain Drop Novelty Print Vinyl Cape. Not only am I bringing comfortable-albeit-fashionably-retarded Mom Jeans back, I'm bringing capes back too.

Cape currently available on Etsy from Empress Jade Vintage.

Prints Charming Sunday: Like 2 Peas In A Pod

Welcome to Prints Charming Sunday!

Today's novelty print pick is this too-cool Vintage Donald Brooks Pea Pod Print Coat.

How great is that?! It's the pea pod-iest! You never really expect your outerwear to have a novelty print, and then a rockin' one like this comes along and you think "how come come there aren't more jackets with novelty prints on them? What up with THAT, designers?" (And for the record, I hate that I just used the word "outerwear".)

Jacket currently available from Jody at Couture Allure Vintage.

Prints Charming Sunday: Pine For It

For this Prints Charming Sunday, get a load of this Vintage 40's Pinecone Novelty Print Rayon Dress.

It's such a perfect print for the season! Could you not just die from awesomeness?! Or at least get temporarily paralyzed? I could! Then again, I could get paralyzed by a bag of Fritos and a Cherry Coke.

The dress is currently available from my amiga Maggie of Denisebrain. Not only does Maggie consistently offer top-notch vintage, but she's donating 25% of the final sale price of this dress to Conservation Northwest, an organization that protects and preserves forests along the Washington state coast. And as much you guys know I slag on greenies and, like, people with causes or whatever, I'll always support wildlife conservation and give props when props are due! Even if you are a treehugger, Maggie. ;)

Atomic Tuesday: A Spring! A Spring! A Marvelous Thing!

If you're, say, under the age of 30 you'll probably think I've lost it completely. To everyone else, I'm sure you already know that line in the title of today's blog is part of the lyrics to the Slinky commercial! What does that have to do with anything? Well, today's Atomic Tuesday vintage pick reminds me of a Slinky... like a boing-y spring...Sooo...I guess it really has nothing to do with an actual Slinky itself, per se. Super. Please ignore the fact that I failed at making a complete and sensical segue and enjoy today's Atomic Tuesday vintage pick-o-awesomeness:

Can you guess what it is?! Of course you can't. It's actually a whole lot of this:

It's 5+ Yards of Vintage 50's Grosgrain Ribbon, in pink (joy!) with a crazy, atomic spring action going on (double joy!).

All this pink love (sounds filthy, no? No? So it's just me then with a problem?) can be purchased from Vintage Tramp (excellent name!) on Etsy.

Prints Charming Sunday: A-B-C, Easy As 1-2-3, Or Simple As Do-Re-Mi

(I bet you have that Jackson 5 song stuck in your head now, right? Ha! Me too. I'm sharing the torture this morning. You know I like to give, and all. You're welcome, I'm sure.)

Welcome to Prints Charming Sunday! Today's super ginchy pick is this way cute Vintage 60's Alphabet Novelty Print New Old Stock Blouse, currently for sale by MySweetiePiePie:

The font is even Old English, so you know who'd really dig it? The misled rockabilly types who get, like, "Rockabilly Rules" tattooed on their necks or to the wanna-be gangstas who need the world to know what a hard knock life they lead with "Thug Fo' Evah" scrawled across their gut. You know, the badasses.

Prints Charming Sunday: Foxy Lady.

Welcome to Prints Charming Sunday! Today's vintage novelty print pick is this tooth achingly sweet Vintage 50's Fox Novelty Print Blouse.

But it's not what you'd think: they're not just boring ol' foxes, but they're girlie foxes with flirty eyes! See?...

Cucuuute! The little foxes remind me of any cartoon from the 50's where there's a female animal constantly trying to use her female wiles to con the male animal out of something, like his wedge of cheese. Or into marriage. Or denying his inter-species sexual harassment. Oh, those crazy 50's. Making us girls look like conniving, materialistic nags. How fun!

Prints Charming Sunday: (I Hope That Someone Gets My) Message In A Bottle

Welcome to Prints Charming Sunday! I think today's novelty print pick is so awesome, I almost can't stand it. On second thought, I definitely can't stand it, it's just that rad. It's this coolio Vintage 50's/60's Ship in a Bottle Novelty Print Blouse.

If I could cram my bod into it, I would totally rock it with high-waisted cigarette pants or 50's jeans with stacks of chunky red plastic bangles and dangly red plastic earrings of some sort. Love!

(How many people have the Police song stuck in your head now? Ha ha, that's my Sunday gift to you. Accept it. Could be worse, you know. Could be something from the Spice Girls. So you're welcome.)

Prints Charming Sunday (On Monday): In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

Photobucket

Welcome to Prints Charming Sunday, but on Monday! Don't fret, it's always going to be on Sundays, but I just got hung up on a long and craptastic weekend that I forgot all about yesterday! So I'm sorry for the delay, but it's only a day, so no need to get your knickers in a twist.

Today's novelty print pick comes from Julie of Damn Good Vintage. That's a shop name I never get sick of saying: Damn Good Vintage. You know, I do like the swears. I think more shops should have swears in their name. Like "Go to Hell Vintage: Jebus Hates You If You Don't Wear This" or "Fuck You, Just Buy My Vintage: For the Jerks Who Need to be Told How Not to Dress Like a Schmuck." I should've grabbed that name years ago. Live and learn.

Anyway, today's novelty print is very cheery and summery- 2 things I am not. Yet I can't resist the screaming pinks and fruity...well, fruit...of this Vintage 60's Serbin Fruit Print Shirtdress. Who cares that it's November and craploads of cold outside? Throw a cardigan sweater over it, wear some cotton tights and you're golden, Ponyboy.

Prints Charming Sunday: 99 Red Balloons

Photobucket

Welcome to the second ever Prints Charming Sunday! In case you missed the first one last week, Prints Charming Sunday showcases a different novelty print each week, usually from the 1940s or 1950s. Since I don't normally blog on weekends- mostly due to slackery and lazetude-I think this is a quick and easy way to pop in and out. No strings, no commitments, and I won't call you in the morning. Everyone wins!

Today's novelty print is from Calendar Girl Clothing, this amazing Vintage 50's Hot Air Balloon Dress.
