Tell Me What You Want (What You Really, Really Want).

It's update time, kids! I realised I don't come on here often enough and just shmooze directly with y'all- mostly I just promote other seller's stuff, so it's about time we do a little one on one! Or whatever.

First, I want to say a hearty Happy New Year! Here's hoping 2010 sucks less than '09. And a big fat welcome to all my new followers to the Girl Can't Help It! If you're following me, I'll follow you back. You know, eventually. It's something I need to update, so if I'm not following you at the moment, let me know so I can return the love. I tend to slack when it comes to updating the blog a bit. OK, I slack alot. On a similar note, if you link to this blog or to my vintage shop Fast Eddie's Retro Rags, again, give me a kick in the arse so I can link back your blog/shop.

I'd also like to thank everyone who makes the effort to leave me comments! I relish reading what you guys have to say. You guys rule so hard and you don't even know it. I try to find the time during the week to read and catch up with your blogs that I'm currently following, but often have even less time to comment on them all. I know. I suck at that. I'm sorry. Something I'm working on for the new year is leaving more comments. So I just want you to know that just because I haven't been commenting much lately, doesn't mean that I don't adore all of your blogs!

Now, some ch-ch-changes. Generally I like things to stay the same. Not a fan of change. However there are some things that I tire of easily. I'm one that needs to rearrange my furniture every 6 months because I like when it looks fresh and interesting. Call it creative visual aesthetic analness, if you will. Same goes for the blog. My mind's always running on creative overtime. Problem is, there's too many ideas rolling around and either not enough follow-through or ability to "make it happen". I've been thinking of getting rid of 1 or 2 of the weekly themes I do- Atomic Tuesday and/or Aqua Blue Heaven Fridays. Finding (cool) atomic things to promote each week is not too easy some weeks, and similarly, I think the aqua thing is getting a little stale. But I don't want to change anything without running it past you guys first, especially if it's something you really dig or look forward to! If I got rid of those 2 themes, I of course am already thinking of replacing them with new themes. Maybe promote a new color. Maybe a particular era or decade. We'll see.

So. Your opinions please, good OR bad. How would you feel if I axed Atomic Tuesday & Aqua Blue Heaven Fridays and replaced them with all new, delicious themes? Would you like to see more posts about vintage fashion? There can be more education of vintage or even just promoting more of it. More vintage/retro stuff, in general? Knit Wit posts? More interviews? What would YOU like to see more of? (Or LESS of, for that matter.)

Gimme your opinions, your 2 cents and your backseat driving! Don't be shy! Step right up to the greatest show on earth. If you don't speak up, then I'll have to assume the Girl Can't Help It rocks so hard that it can't be touched.

Aqua Blue Heaven Friday: All By Myshelf

Welcome, my fellow nerdlingtons, to a very late Aqua Blue Heaven Friday!

I'm very late posting today's blog theme to which I'm slightly sorry for. I'm also sorry for ending that last sentence with a preposition. I think I'm gonna make a few changes around the ol' blog in these here parts. Why am I talking sort of like a cowboy? I'm not sure. But I am sure that I'll post more about it tomorrow, regarding some changes I'm thinking of doing here, and of course I want your opinion. Nay, I demand it. Nah, I don't demand it. But I do demand satisfaction, sir! A duel, I say! Nah, I don't demand that either. Why am I now talking like an 18th century socialite? It's just that kind of schizophrenic blog day, my friends. Let's move on before any more of these Sybil-esque voices start any more conversations, shall we? We shall.

Today's vintage aqua pick is this Vintage 60's Aqua & Pink Rose Shelf Paper, currently available from Etsy seller Harlow Monroe.

When I'm not having conflicting conversations with myself in my head, I often take to home fancy-fication, and shelf paper's one of those things that I never think about. So I went in search of some on Etsy and lo and behold, there's this hunka chunka new old stock! I'm personally not generally a fan of roses, or more specifically, shabby chic roses but I can honestly say I don't hate this vintage shelf paper. But ask me tomorrow and I may have a different opinion. Happens alot around here.

Way-Out Wednesday: What'chu Talkin' 'Bout, Willis?

It's Way-Out Wednesday time!

Because I do love me some creepy, strange, grumpy and bizarro dolls, I present you with my Way Out Wednesday gift:

There is so much right and so much wrong with this little thing, making me love it all the more. I love that the title is "Vintage Rubber Sitting Doll With Attitude". I picture someone saying that title out loud and using jazz hands when they come to the "With Attitude" part. Possibly ending with a "ta-daaa!" flourish. Is she mad, ready to cry or just seriously annoyed and about to put a whoopin' down on all y'all? Is she black? Eskimo? Native American? Asian? None of the above? The love child of Nell Carter, Moe from "the Three Stooges", Tammy Faye Baker's fake eyelashes, the entire cast of "Grumpy Old Men", a bran muffin and Dee from "What's Happening"? The world may never know.

Vintage rubber sitting doll with attitude currently available on Etsy from Ismoyo.

Atomic Tuesday

It's the first Atomic Tuesday of the year! Exciting, indeed. Today I found not 1, but 2 different vintage chunks-o-fabric, both from the same seller on Etsy, both with atomic prints but in 2 different colorways. And they're both freaking sweet.

First, there's this Vintage 50's Pink & Blue Atomic Starbursts Fabric, and I know how much you guys dig the pink and all!...

Or you could go with this Vintage 50's Aqua and Yellow Atomic Starbursts Fabric. I mean, really. How could you not love? I mean, really. Aqua. And. Yellow.

Prints Charming Sunday: A Rose Is A Rose

It's time for the first Prints Charming Sunday of a brand spankin' new year! I'm sure like for many of you, here in the northeast it's been exceptionally windy and cold and, well duh, winter. So I thought we could all use a little summer kick in the pants today, with this adorable Vintage 40's Rose Print Puff Sleeve Dress.

I realise it's not really a novelty print, but you have to admit, it is really adorable, so there. Dress currently available from Julie of Damn Good Vintage.

All Is Quiet On New Year's Day

Happy New Year's Day, kiddies! Gonna skip today's Aqua Blue Heaven Friday theme for obvious reasons. Not because of feeling slightly hangover-ish and wanting to dive head first into a pile of cheese pizzas then take a nap on the couch for a couple hours, no! No,... it's becasue... I'm out saving hobos and puppies while a Sarah McLachlan song plays in the background while I simultaneously pick up trash form the side of the road while a Native American stands by and cries. Yep! That's pretty much exactly why.

I'll return to our regular blog themes starting this Sunday. Right now I have a very important nap to take- I mean world to save! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

3...2...1...

...Happy New Year!

Just wanted to wish to everyone a swanktastic New Year's eve! Party like it's 2009. I for one will be a tv zombie, watching the Twilight Zone marathon that plays this time on the the SciFi channel every year. I'm a nutbag for that hot piece-o-manmeat called "early 60's William Shatner" who starred in a few of the episodes.

Behold the Shatner deliciousness, in one of my favorite TZ episodes called "Nick of Time", where the Shat and his wife get stuck in a small town while their car is being fixed and he gets addicted to a fortune-telling machine in the town's diner.

Hello, lover.

Have a happy stinkin' New Year, my lovelies! Here's hoping 2010 sucks a little less than 2009 did. Cheers!
