Prints Charming Sunday: Book To The Future

Welcome to a very late Prints Charming Sunday!

Photobucket

I apologize for the lateness of today's post- I've been slackified by reading all the live long day today-- on my new Look Book reader. I swore I would never, ever buy a Kindle or a Lookbook or any brand of e-reader for that matter. I'm not one who's easily impressed by technology or people who need to keep up with it. The Joneses can sprint right on past me with their high-tech gadgets, overpriced Starbucks and brand new SUVS. I've always, my entire life since about birth, had a 1940's "make do and mend" mentality instilled in me. The same goes for books. I love that instant vibe you get when you walk into a library and begin pacing the aisles until you see a crackly leather-bound calling your name. I love the feel of pages of brittle, yellowed, dry paper between my fingers and the musty "old book smell" that drifts out of it. And I ain't talking about a trip to Borders. The whole going-to-the-library process is tradition, spending rainy days sitting in old leather club chairs or sitting on the floorby the window can't ever be replaced. Call me a sentimental fool or a nostalgic sap, I don't mind. But when the opportunity to buy a brand spanking new Lookbook for 30 bucks came up, well, even *I* was dragged into the 21st century. (But I gotta tell you, pushing a button to turn a page just ain't doing it for me.)

So for today's vintage novelty print, I wanted to find something book-related for a theme, because themes are great! They're my raison d'etre. But alas, no book novelty prints. However, in the theme of all-things-nerdy, I did find a wonderfully geeky print...

Perfect for a walk to the library, isn't it?...

Way-Out Wednesday: Oh A Wiseguy, Eh?!

Welcome to a tardy Way-Out Wednesday!

Photobucket

Completely off topic, but saying the word "tardy" simultaneously makes me A.) snicker uncontrollably, like I'm getting away with saying something slightly unkosher, because apparently I'm in 7th grade and B.) gives me the heebie jeebies because it freaks my mind with a "holy shit, I'm late to class!" mini flashback feeling, because apparently I'm in 7th grade.

Speaking of rocking those "back in the day" flashbacks, today's pick for Way-Out Wednesday totally makes me want to be a kid on Halloween again. Also, today's pick totally makes say who am I kidding, I'd buy this for myself NOW for Halloween, even if I AM about 18 years past my trick-or-treating expiration date. I am, of course, talking about this fantastic Vintage 50's Tough Guy Thug Mask:

Badass, no? Why, soitenly! The 10 year old version of me was never cool enough to wear a mask like this for Halloween. Hell, the 33 year old version of me isn't cool enough to wear a mask like this. Cosa Nerdstra. Maybe if I get the old-timey gangster lingo down and add just a little bit o'moxie, I might stand a chance at pulling it off--or else it's coitens for me. Aha! See that? See what I did just there? My inner thug is ready to...you know... pop a cap? Whatever. Now you try, or you'll be sleeping wit da fishes, ya big galoot!

Yep. Just as I suspected. Still not cool.

Way-Out Wednesday: Pencil Me In.

Welcome to Way-Out Wednesday, my lovely little nerdlingtons!

You know, every once in a while, I find something good for Way-Out Wednesday that is absolutely not vintage (whah?!) and not creepy/strange/bizarro (whah?!), but just plain old wacky. But in a good way. And today is that day, my friends.

If you're a freak, geek, dork, band nerd, book worm, teacher, librarian, student, knitter, writer, tech support worker ... pencil-chewer ... umm... woodsman... wool-maker ... huh ... (I'm running out, here) ... or human, I can't imagine how you couldn't totally adore these Handmade Lambswool Knit Pencil Scarves, from Etsy seller Saracarr.

I mean, really. Really. I love wacky, novelty type things such as this- plus, you know, I'm a giant nerd so there's that. Whaddya think? Too cool for school?

Way-Out Wednesday: Let's Play A Game of....BRAINS...

Photobucket

Welcome to Way-Out Wednesday! In keeping with the Halloween spirit and admiring many an Etsy chick with mad craftacular skillz, I found something that is not only creative but a little odd, in the best way, of course. There is a seller called P's and Q's who makes checkerboards from upcycled wood and hand-painted, unique checkerboard pieces. You won't find the standard plastic black and red circle pieces (like the uber craptastic set I have), nay, she makes her pieces into the shapes of mummies and vampires and even, dare I say, Sasquatches. Because it's like I always never say: "A girl cannot live without a checkerboard set of Sasquatches."

And so, behold her sets of wonder and joy! Perfect for that rare combo of Horror Fan and Super Nerd:

This is what a whole set would look like, including the board. What a swell and creative idea, right? I'd probably end up half-assing it, give up after painting 1/2 of one, get frustrated and end up throwing it outside into the street. But then, I have a little problem with "anger management", apparently.

Vampires Vs. Mummies!

But wait! There's more...

Photobucket

Yettis Vs. Sasquatches (Also, I'm not sure how to spell the plural of "yeti". Stupid spellcheck offered me nothing. That jerk.)

Photobucket

Aliens Vs. Robots

And yes, even Zombies Vs. Angry Townspeople
