Knit Wits, Part 10: Premenopausal In Pink.

Photobucket

You know, it's been a while since we explored the strangeness of vintage sweater patterns, so it's high time we delve into the wacky antics of pattern people. Thanks to Elanknits on Etsy for offering this Vintage 1949 Stitchcraft Sweater Pattern for inspiration!

I now bring you: Premenopausal in Pink...

Duckie had finally accepted the fact that his last resort for a prom date was his Mom. He could accept the fact that Andie likes a tool who'll toss her ass to the curb the second his foot hits Harvard ground. He could accept the fact that his HMO only covers 2 therapy sessions a month from the mental anguish posing with his mom for his prom picture will cause. What he couldn't quite accept was the motel room key his mom slipped into his pocket on the dance floor during the Electric Slide.

Way-Out Wednesday: Don't Send In The Clowns! Part 1

Welcome to Way-Out Wednesday!

Photobucket

You may be wondering "What's the dealio with all this Part 1 business?" Well, seeing as though I tend to find quite a few creepy-ass clowns in my daily internet trolling, I figured it only common courtesy to start an ongoing "creepy-ass vintage clown" count for Way-Out Wednesday. You know, since you're all such fans of clowns and all. It's my gift to you. You're welcome. (Mwuahahaha!)

So to start our official creepy clown posse, I give to you this Vintage Clown Print. AKA: "Toothless Joe, Toucher of Naughty Places":

Atomic Tuesday: Turn It On!

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday!

Photobucket

Today I'm featuring one-of-a-kind work from one of my favorite crafty bitches on Etsy, seller Fondue. She covers boring, plain light switch plates with vintage wallpaper from the 1920's to the 1970's in different themes to fit your style, from poodles to kitsch to ballerinas. I give her a zillion cool points for not only making cute switch plates for kids' rooms, but for recognising that boys need cool vintage stuff too! Seems there's always a ton of vintage-themed things available for little girls but not nearly as much for boys, so Fondue has a decent selection for a boy's room like planes, sports, cowboys & Indians, etc. Right on!

(PS: They're also great accent for the vintage-lovin' person who wants to add a little personality to their rented apartment or house, but isn't allowed to paint!)

So for Atomic Tuesday, here are just a few switch plate covers that I find uber charming--Ok, they're not exactly a "few", but it was hard narrowing it down to, like, under a dozen!:

I'll make my own one day...maybe during a vacation day in the summer...or maybe more like when it's winter and I have more of time to kill...whatevs, who am I kidding any damn way, I'll never sit long enough to complete one...Wait...What were we talking about?..."

Yo' Mama!

I just wanted to pop in to say that Prints Charming Sunday will resume as usual next week, but today I want to wish all you broads out there a very Happy Mother's Day!

Photobucket

I think it's just as important to honor and show respect and give some lovin' to the non-mothers in our lives as well- to the other women in our lives who make every day a little better like sisters and girl friends, grandmothers, aunts... hell, even you hard workin' single fathers get props in my book!

Photobucket

I wish all you hot mamas a fab day with your kids, family and friends! May you all get crappy noodle necklaces, burned toast in bed and left with a bigger mess to clean up than usual. Happy Mother's Day!

Aqua Blue Heaven Friday: The Bucket List.

Photobucket

What with spring in full...full...you know, full springness and all, I figure many of us are spending lots of time outdoors. Not me though. I hate outdoors. I do love to garden my face off, but after that nature and I don't see eye-to-eye. However I don't mind a good laze-about with a book on the patio. Preferably with drinks. No, always with drinks. That's where cute, vintage ice buckets come in handy! So it'll be no shock and/or surprise to know that vintage aqua-hued ice buckets is our theme for today!

Vintage Aqua Stripes Ice Bucket available on Etsy from seller I'm So Vintage.

Photobucket

Vintage 50's/60's Aqua Ice Bucket from Etsy seller Selling Vintage. I love the attached kickstand on it! Or whatever it's called. I'm not good with the fancy-like words and such.

Photobucket

May I point out the awesomeness of the bull's head hardware? Well I just did. And may I also point out the randomness of scattered maryjane candies? I don't know what the significance is, but I like it. Don't mess with my candy, man. In fact, those better come with this Vintage 50's/60's Aqua Ice Bucket on Etsy from seller Sweet Love Vintage or someone'll get the horns. Get it? The random movie reference and a crappy pun? Hey, it's friday. I'm allowed.

Way-Out Wednesday: The Cinco De Mayo Edition!

Welcome to a special edition of Way-Out Wednesday for Cinco de Mayo!

Photobucket

When I was searching for something kickass for today's Mexican theme, I didn't feel like schlepping through a million Day of the Dead items on etsy, and besides, that wasn't exactly what I was looking for anyway. I wanted something vintage and a little "out there", you know? I wanted something little. Yellow. Different. (If you're under the age of 30 you probably won't get that random tv commercial reference.) So's then I think I find the something I was looking for. But I was all "Why the fark would someone paint a luchador mask on a vintage hairdresser's bust?! What a friggin' moron." But after seeing more pictures of it, I realised that it was was something completely different. It was awesomeness.

Behold, my amigos, this Vintage Mexican Luchador Chalkware Bust:

Photobucket

Ay, dios mio! This is so cool. I loves me some vintage chalkware and I know you guys do too, but this is totally out of my realm. It seems roughly 1950s to me, judging by the face and the "Mexico" signature, but chalkware can be hard to date and looks pretty much the same from the 50's to the 70's, so I could be way off. Whatevs. Either way, it's strange and unusual and being as though I myself am strange and unusual, I love this thing! (Another random movie reference for you. Sorry. That's enough.)

Even has great detailing to the back!...

I wonder if anyone has info about busts like this? (I just said "busts like this", heh heh heh.)

Prints Charming Sunday: Mambo Italiano.

Photobucket

"A girl went back to Napoli
Because she missed the scenery..."

I don't know about you guys, but we here in the northeast are roasting our keisters off with unseasonably roasty weather. I assume Californians and the like are used to this, but 90 degree days when it's barely May is evil. So I'm thinking it's time to start investing in some more new (read: old) summer dresses to beat the heat. And margaritas. And frozen daiquiris. But for now a vintage dress with a kicky novelty print will have to do. Like this seriously cool Vintage 50's GONDOLA Novelty Print Dress, (on Etsy from seller Vintage Critter) in a perfect-fo'-summa, cool rayon:

Photobucket

Photobucket

See?! Gondolas! That pretty much rules.

And since we're in a festive mood and all, perhaps a little mood musci will cure what ails us:

I have no idea what this freaky-ass video is all about. I figured we all know the Rosemary Clooney & Dean Martin versions, so please enjoy this video of some French actor named Gérard Darmon doing his version of Mambo Italiano, for some godforsaken reason. Also, it looks like a generic version of Muppets and Tony Bennett. Creepy awesomeness.
