Prints Charming Sunday: This One Time, At Band Camp...

Welcome to Prints Charming Sunday!

I gotta admit, today's vintage novelty print speaks to my inner nerd... OK, who am I kidding?! My inner nerd, my outer nerd...hell, my entire nerdhood loves this print. I realise my supercool (shuddup!) persona would lead you to think otherwise, but I've played many an instrument since childhood. One of the longest I've played is the viola. I was in the orchestra and played in school concerts from 6th to 12th grade. I am a for-reals band geek. And you know what? I don't care who knows it! Do we have any other band geeks in the house? Let me know so we can swap True Stories of Embarrassing Moments, as we all have a dorky story of lame things that happened during practice or on stage during a concert. Like this one time, at band camp....

Today's vintage novelty print is this a-may-zing Vintage 50's Violin Novelty Print Silk Dress, currently available on Etsy from seller RedBox Vintage:

  2. I was in the band and played clarinet. We were given uniforms when we began 9th grade and were expected to fit in them the rest of our high school career...well my two best friends and I ate a little too much and gained some weight. I could not stand it anymore and in 11th grade went to the band director and asked for larger pants. My friends were furious that I did not get new pants for them. It is still a running joke amongst us.

  4. oh you have many nerds reading, I was a classically trained pianist, nearly ended up going to college to study it but realised the immense amount of nerds I would have to hang out with so moved to London, lived in a squat and working in the music business, that got me some street cred back ha ha!

I was also always in the school Brass Band, I suspect this is a uniquely UK tradition, I played over time, tenor horn, euphonium (oh yes!) and tuba!

  5. I don't love the print. Maybe if it was in a different color I would love it. But yellow and brown? Not my bag, baby.

I wasn't in band in high school, but I played the flute anyways (closet geek?). My college roommate was in the ISU Marching Band and damn proud of it. She played the .. the... it has a weird name and it is like a tuba but it isn't a tuba ... Sousaphone! Yeah! (I totally googled it)
