Way-Out Wednesday: When Good Fruit Goes Bad.

Today's pick is this Vintage Apple & Banana Scatter Pin Set:





You may ask: "What's so "way-out" about that?" It's not creepy or disturbing, true. But it's wacky (always good) and anything anthropomorphic is usually always a good time. I find the set hilarious for a few reasons. First, googly eyes = win! Second, thanks to the wonders of time and aging, the banana's a little rusty 'round the peepers and now looks like he's beginning to rot. (Why do I find that amusing? I don't know. I just do.) But most of all, the apple is doing the Rerun dance! A million percent win! Anyone that does the Rerun dance is OK in my book.

For those of you who don't know who Rerun is or his "poppin' & lockin'" sweet dance skills, he was a character on a 1970s American tv show called What's Happening!! (Yes, with 2 exclamation marks. I'm really not yelling the title at you.)

Way-Out Wednesday: Give Me Some Credit.

Today's Way-Out Wednesday pick isn't vintage or way-out at all, in the sense of the day's usual theme of creepy/strange/bizarre- but it is kind of way-out in the "those crafty Etsy bitches did it again! why didn't I think of that? what a coolio idea!" way. I'm talking about ye olde upcycling again, only this time I promise not to rant about how much I despise the "going green" catch phrase. (OK, I lied. I loathe the trendy catchphrase "going green". Now I'm done.)

This time, those wily artsy types took old credit and gift cards, hacked them to bits, added some metal hardware doodads and voila! Wearable art that came from, essentially, junk! I know, I make it sound easy, as if I'd ever attempt to make something like that. Hell, I don't even have any credit cards to hack up, having long since lived without more than a Visa check card for years now. Plus, my credit sucks, so there's that. (Though it's laughable, getting those "you may be pre-approved for a Visa Platinum card!" spammy applications in the mail. I laugh at the irony, you nutty credit card companies, thinking I should have credit. Ha! You fools!)

See how cool crappy plastic cards can look? These chicks even get color-organised! Now that's talent! I can't even organise my sock drawer.

Aqua Blue Heaven Friday: Razzle Dazzle.

Welcome to this week's Aqua Blue Heaven Friday!



Can I just say how much I'm so over the snow? Good. I'll say it, then: I'm so over the snow. It seemed like a perfectly charming and idyllic idea, say, in December. But by now, it's starting to become a bummer, like spring will never get here and it'll be eternally a snowy tomb around here. (That's pretty damn cheerful, no?!) My homeslices in Cali probably can't quite understand, seeing as though you're always mudsliding or on fire, which is the extreme opposite of snow and all. Point is, we're all sick of our weather and wake me up when it's spring, with a frozen daiquiri in one hand and a plate of nachos in the other and no one gets hurt.

So for today's theme, we're gonna rock some pretty, twinkly, girlie, sparkly, shiny, glisten-y, bedazzle-y vintage jewelry, because it's a helluva lot better than twinkly, sparkly snow! Or twinkly, sparkly mud & fire.

Or possibly a movie starring Elizabeth Taylor. And if there's one thing Elizabeth Taylor taught is, is that over the top jewelry is never wrong.

Hallween Friday: The Witch Is Back

It's Halloween Friday! Today's theme is the witch. I find the history of witches fascinating, who knows, maybe I was one in a previous life. Probably not a good one, either. A powerful & intelligent woman must obviously have something wrong with her and therefore is a threat. And must die. Not in a humane way either, hells no. We must torture her along the way, so it sends a message to women everywhere not to be different from the crowd and to never speak out of line. Yay! Damn women. Who do we think we are?



So for today's theme I went straight to Etsy, where I knew the crafty witches there would surely have something fitting for me to feature. And there are a buttload of witch crafts to witch jewelry to witch soap to witch skirts to vintage witch things, enough to make your head spin. So much so that it got frustrating, looking at the Halloween things and wondering what direction I wanted to take the blog out for a spin in. Did I want to do an all-vintage theme? That would leave me pretty much with nothing but witch candy bags from the 80's and plastic wall decorations. Meh. Did I want to do a clothing theme? Unless you want to see witch-print tulle tu-tu skirts for 4 year olds, that wasn't gonna fly. (HA! Get it? Sigh.) I almost gave up on the whole damn project. When I start to take things too seriously, it's time to chill the funk out and back the frick off.

But then I came across a seller called BeBop Moon and knew instantly I wanted to show her handmade charm bracelets. They're definitely not too serious! A little kitschy, a bit whimsical and I bet they'll totally make you feel like you're 10 again.

I adore charm bracelets to begin with- the more noisy, jangly crap hanging off of them, the better. I love these Halloween bracelets so hard, it hurts. Hopefully you guys will like 'em too! If you don't... well... you're all a bunch of witches. Here's hoping you enjoy!
