Aqua Blue Heaven Friday: Iced Key

Welcome to Aqua Blue Heaven Friday! A very steamy, muggy and all-around grody friday. (And yes, I *did* just say "grody" because apparently it's 1985.)

Photobucket

Today's aqua deliciousness is this interesting set of Vintage 60's Keyhole Design Glasses:

Photobucket

Yep, keyholes! Cool, right? Never saw that design before (as far as vintage glassware goes, I mean). I wonder what the inspiration was for these back in the day? All's I know is that they rock pretty hard. But if aqua's not your bag, the seller also has yellow and green ones for sale. Score! (If I wasn't overrun with vintage glassware already, I'd buy them all and do a little mixy-matchy action.) See?:

Perfect for summer lemondade. Or iced tea. Or pink squirrels. Whatever. All glasses currently available on Etsy from seller Molly's Closet.

Way-Out Wednesday: No Country For Old Dolls.

Welcome to Way-Out Wednesday!

Photobucket

Given the ridonkulous heat my fellow northeasterners have to endure, and the flooding of you midwesterners and, like, the fire that's probably going on somewhere in California right now, I thought I'd reward you all with a special Way-Out Wednesday treat. A doll. One "holy hell that is one creepy-ass doll" doll.

Behold:

Photobucket

No, your eyes don't deceive you. That is a girl doll. With an extreme disproportionate face-to-noggin-size ratio. That looks mildly retarded. And somehow old. And bald. Even Prince Charming looks like he'd rather bludgeon himself with a lute than have to kiss The Thing That Fire Wouldn't Kill.

I mean really:

Photobucket

It's terrifying and questionable and wrong and disturbing and because of those things, is totally right in my book.

Vintage 50's Tiny Doll (did I mention it's only 3 inches tall?! Because it is. Why so small? Good God, what purpose does that serve?!) available on Etsy from seller Covetable Curiosities. (I strongly suggest you check out their store- it's chock full of cool, vintage trinkets & teeny plastic bits and interesting whatnots. Like more dolls like this gem. You're welcome.)

Party Like It's 1776!

I know it's been said a million times already today in blogland, but let me be the millionth and one to say Happy 4th of July, America! May you all be as happy as possible with your dysfunctional family & friends, have a belly full of hot dogs & cold beer, and careful not to shoot your eye out with those bottle rockets, black mambas, ballbusters and cherry bombs. Have a great day, all!

Prints Charming Sunday: 3 Cheers For Red, White & Blue!

Welcome to a special holiday edition of Prints Charming Sunday!

Photobucket

Being as though it's the 4th of July here in the US, I figured it only fitting to make today's theme even more, you know, theme-ier. Red, white & blue-ier, even! (And you know, even if you're not in the US of A, there are plenty of other countries that have red, white & blue flags, like my mates in Australia & the UK! Luxembourg
and Norway! And even exciting and exotic destinations like...Cambodia.)

Enjoy the patriotic display-o-frocks and have a fantastic day no matter where you are, kids!

Way-Out Wednesday: Oh A Wiseguy, Eh?!

Welcome to a tardy Way-Out Wednesday!

Photobucket

Completely off topic, but saying the word "tardy" simultaneously makes me A.) snicker uncontrollably, like I'm getting away with saying something slightly unkosher, because apparently I'm in 7th grade and B.) gives me the heebie jeebies because it freaks my mind with a "holy shit, I'm late to class!" mini flashback feeling, because apparently I'm in 7th grade.

Speaking of rocking those "back in the day" flashbacks, today's pick for Way-Out Wednesday totally makes me want to be a kid on Halloween again. Also, today's pick totally makes say who am I kidding, I'd buy this for myself NOW for Halloween, even if I AM about 18 years past my trick-or-treating expiration date. I am, of course, talking about this fantastic Vintage 50's Tough Guy Thug Mask:

Photobucket

Badass, no? Why, soitenly! The 10 year old version of me was never cool enough to wear a mask like this for Halloween. Hell, the 33 year old version of me isn't cool enough to wear a mask like this. Cosa Nerdstra. Maybe if I get the old-timey gangster lingo down and add just a little bit o'moxie, I might stand a chance at pulling it off--or else it's coitens for me. Aha! See that? See what I did just there? My inner thug is ready to...you know... pop a cap? Whatever. Now you try, or you'll be sleeping wit da fishes, ya big galoot!

Yep. Just as I suspected. Still not cool.

Prints Charming Sunday: This One Time, At Band Camp...

Welcome to Prints Charming Sunday!

Photobucket

I gotta admit, today's vintage novelty print speaks to my inner nerd... OK, who am I kidding?! My inner nerd, my outer nerd...hell, my entire nerdhood loves this print. I realise my supercool (shuddup!) persona would lead you to think otherwise, but I've played many an instrument since childhood. One of the longest I've played is the viola. I was in the orchestra and played in school concerts from 6th to 12th grade. I am a for-reals band geek. And you know what? I don't care who knows it! Do we have any other band geeks in the house? Let me know so we can swap True Stories of Embarrassing Moments, as we all have a dorky story of lame things that happened during practice or on stage during a concert. Like this one time, at band camp....

Today's vintage novelty print is this a-may-zing Vintage 50's Violin Novelty Print Silk Dress, currently available on Etsy from seller RedBox Vintage:

Way-Out Wednesday: Salt And Pepa's Here, And We're In Effect

Welcome to Way-Out Wednesday!

Photobucket

I've been pretty MIA around here and I apologise for the skimpy posts lately. Hey, it's summer. It happens. (I'll probably be rockin' the skimpy posts for a while, just so's you know. At least, until I get sick of summer, which should be any day now.) I've got many projects up in the air right now-the "big one" includes a vintage sweater, me and a book--that's all I can say for now, without jinxing the whole damn thing. Sorry to be a tease, but-- mwuahahaha! So please bear with me over the next month or 2 of lameness, okay? Okay, dammit.

Do you remember how in last week's post I said how much I'm loving vintage things-that-hold-other-things? (AKA: The Daisy Pin of Doom -or- the Poison Pin?) Well I found me another thing-that-cleverly-disguises-another-thing...oh man, is it strange and great...

Not poison but...

Photobucket

...Salt and pepper! Because the lack of proper food flavoring is a growing concern in these hard times of ours. Look how fun-- they're lanterns!...that just happen to hold salt and pepper. (Why? Who the hell knows why they're shaped like lanterns? Because, that's why!)

Vintage Lantern-Shaped Salt & Pepper Lucite Earrings are currently available on Etsy from seller Studio Stebby Lee!
