Way-Out Wednesday: Keep Your Hands To Your Elf

Photobucket

Today's Way-Out Wednesday pick is kind of...hmm...special, maybe? I don't mean "special" as in: needs to wear a helmet in the bathtub and a spork is too dangerous a cooking utensil special, more like it's not weird, gross or creepy (though a bit off-kilter and pretty dang cute, which we LOVE), it's rockin' some aqua so technically it could be a choice for Aqua Blue Heaven Friday (which, OK, so I haven't done that theme in a while, back off my jock, homies), AND it's also a novelty print, so we could've used it for a Prints Charming Sunday pick. You could say that today's pick is such a non-conformist that it breaks all boundaries and cannot be put into any one box, man. But I wouldn't say that hippie "I'm-OK-you're-OK" crap. I'd say shut the hell up already and get to showin' the pick for Way-Out Wednesday. So I will.

Behold! Wacky elves! Aqua mushrooms! Terrycloth...fabric... OK, that's a little odd. I'm hung up on that part. I LOOOOVE pixies and elves, but damn, what would one make with terrycloth? I guess a dress/skirt/blouse/ANY sort of fashion (outside of a swimsuit cover up) would be weird to wear when made out of a towel. What would YOU make out of this? Do tell! (A good choice if you're in, say, the porn business, no?)

Way-Out Wednesday: Slink Down The Alley, Looking For A Fight

Welcome to Way-Out Wednesday!

When you're having a rather craptacular day, the kind that not even your pool boy from a Scandinavian country, a whole bottle of Xanax, and/or a cocktail or 3 can fix, I find that this helps:

Now, on any other day I'd think "sure, it's a cute print, aqua & pink, awesome" and move on, not even paying close attention to their faces. But today was different. Something about this print made me linger a second longer and then I realised why I liked this print so much: the prospect of cats- not quite right cats, somewhat mentally unstable cats, cats with issues, reeeally angry cats- somehow is more entertaining today than anything my friend Jack Daniels could muster. Angry cats, with a side of theatrics. Cats that'll scratch your face off, man...right after they finish reenacting a dance number and the "gettin' cut" scene from West Side Story.

Atomic Tuesday: Shaken. And Stirred.

Welcome to Atomic Tuesday!

Photobucket

You know, I haven't shopped on ebay in about a year. I lost all interest in the place after one too many craptastic purchases from one too many even more craptastic sellers. Plus, the constant "improvements" to the site made me so frustrated and stabby that I ended up turning all my affection to either vintage websites of sellers I know and trust, or to Etsy, where I enjoy the artistic vibe of the place. (Granted, Etsy's no angel either and has it's fair share of problems, glitches and pains-in-the-asses.) Maybe it's just me and I'm a cynical grumpy jerk, but ebay's become my red-headed stepchild. You know, "I don't hate you, but I don't really like you either. Life was simpler when you weren't in it and sometimes I get drunk and yell at you, so I'm sorry about that. Most of the time I regret yelling at you, except for all those times I don't.")

Lucky for me, I happened to catch wind of today's vintage pick from the seller herself! Damn lucky too, or else I never would've found these 4 Yards of Vintage 50's Atomic Boomerang Fabric, currently at auction on ebay (with 2 more days to go) from seller Specialsomethings. It's on my watch list, but I have a feeling it's gonna skyrocket out of my price range (which is generally about 7 dollars and 42 cents.)

Behold:

Boomerangs! Atomic starbursts! Classic color, classic print, and it's vintage! It's a trifecta of vintage fabric perfection. (Or something.) You can make an awful lot of beer bottle cozies with 4 yards! (What? No one makes beer bottle cozies anymore? Pity. Another lost art.) The print reminds me of a martini with onions and olives, somehow. Am I crazy? (Answer that and pay the price.)

See? I bet you get a martini vibe now too, right?! (No? Oh, OK. I'm the crazy one, then.)
