Prints Charming Sunday: Yodel-Lay-Hee-Hoo!

It's Prints Charming Sunday again! And to ease some of your minds, I have no plans to stop doing this particular theme so no worries, mates! (I said that in my head like I was Australian. You should try it. I royally suck at doing an Australian accent, by the way. It's borderline embarrassing. OK, it's flat-out embarrassing, who am I kidding?) Novelty prints are so awesomely fun, I don't think there's anyone who doesn't dig them and there's jillions to be found, ranging from the 1940's to the 1970's, so I don't think that theme could ever get stale and boring! (At least, not any time soon, right-o?)

Today's vintage novelty print pick is this perplexing yet really cool Vintage 40's Novelty Print Blouse.

The perplexing part is that the seller is calling it a beach print. Beach print?

I dunno. When I see it up close I see Swiss Alps mountain hiker/goat herder type dudes in lederhosen that Julie Andrews sang about on the Sound of Music. Am I seeing it all sorts of wrong? The print reminds me of everyone's favorite 1970's game Cliff Hangers, as seen on the Price is Right, where the mountain hiker yodels as he climbs the mountain and then falls of the edge of the cliff if you lose:

Atomic Tuesday: Time After Time

Photobucket

Welcome to another Atomic Tuesday! Today's theme is all about time~ the not having enough of it, the how fast it passes you by, the "holy crap, how is it the middle of July already, more than half of the year is over, dude you'll never believe that I bought my first Xmas present for someone already, and my birthday is creeping up closer and closer, hot damn I'm getting old, oh dear god make it stop, WHY WON'T YOU MAKE IT STOP?!" Yeah. Time. It's not on your side. And I'm not a fan.

So without wasting any more of this precious commodity, I give you this week's Atomic Tuesday time theme~ a must-have staple of any mid-century modern home decor, a little cliche but a whole lot of cool: the vintage 50's/60's starburst clock!

Photobucket

Vintage Ingraham Electric Starburst Clock. Comes with its original box, too!

If silver is more your speed, then how's about this Vintage Ingraham Starburst Clock? (It's just like the one above only this one is battery-run.)

Photobucket

Cutesy Vintage Lux Flowerburst Clock, for those who prefer their decor to be on the girlie side!

Photobucket

Vintage United Clock. I love the font of the numbers on this one! They remind me of graphics you'd see in old school bowling alleys from the 50's and 60's. (Ps: I have no idea if calling the style of numbers a "font" is correct. What DO you call it? Whatever. You know what I mean. Right? Right.)

Photobucket

Vintage German-Designed Clock. At first I thought this was heading into shabby chic hell- you know, all sorts of white with that old timey wrought iron garden gate-esque look, but then the more I looked at it, the more those super spikes grew on me and the more my mind wandered into Vlad the Impaler territory, somehow, and now I rather love it. Don't ask. It's just how this mind works.

Photobucket

Vintage United Battery-Run Clock. This one has me perplexed. I do love the circle-y loops at the end of each spike, but I'm not sure how I feel about the scrolly gold leaf design. Clock design shouldn't cause confusion, should it? I'm torn, sad little starburst clock. I want to love you, but you're borderline tacky. Then again, aren't we all? Ok, I'm not mad at you anymore, clock. We're cool.

Way-Out Wednesday: I've Got The World On A String

Not too long ago, I was rambling on about grody (to me, anyway) 70's art (like those big-eyed girl paintings made hip again by those damn hipsters, with their stringy hair and...Lip Smackers or...Sassoon jeans...or whatever, I don't "do" hipster) and my friend over at Monkey Muck reminded me of a grotesqueness I haven't thought about in forever, and that, my dear friends, is 70's string art. You all know it. If you're in my age group, then your parents probably had a string art picture hanging up in their rumpus room (I love that word), if you were an adult in the 70's, then you probably had a string art picture in your basement next to the 8-track, bean bag chairs and hanging above the table where you stashed your pot. Don't act like you didn't because I know you did. Which leads me to a question or 2, maybe 6:

1.) Where have the string arts gone?
2.) Have you seen any recently?
3.) Does anyone currently own a string art?
4.) Were the string arts an American thing or was an international phenom as well?
5.) If the string arts did travel overseas, what were the popular themes?
6.) How drunk do you have to be before hammering nails into canvas and tieing
strings to them is fun?

So for this Way-Out Wednesday, I went on a quest for the string arts and found a handful of wonderfully painful examples, and as always, all pictures are clickable so you can go to the listing and buy it. Which means either you're a patchouli-stinking, Birkenstock-wearing, Phish-listening, dope-smoking, wanna-be hippie hipster neophile who's probably going to an ivy league school on Daddy's bill, or you just have an affinity for remembering your youth. Please do enjoy the wonder that is called 70's String Art:

Here's a whole kit! What joy.

Sooo...this is muy macho, right? Just checking.

Why so angry, Mr. Owl? I'm not the one who stole your damn Tootsie Pop, so don't blame me! Don't bite my head off, grumpy pants. GOSH. Stupid mean owl.

I have GOT to say something, or my head might explode...this is the only time I'll probably ever be able to say this here and it not be filthy...can't keep it in...LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT COCK! Wheeeew. Praise jebus! The demons have been ex-or-sized! I have been cleansed! Ok. Much better now. Glad I got that out.

I know owls are a ubiquitous 70's theme, but my grandmother collected all things owl in the 70's and had the exact same one as this! Actually, I bet everyone's grandmother collected all things owl and had the exact same one as this.

Oh. Good. Lord...Eeeew. I don't feel so good...I NEED AN ADULT! I NEED AN ADULT!...THINK OF A HAPPY PLACE...GO TO THAT HAPPY PLACE...UNICORNS AND RAINBOWS, UNICORNS AND RAINBOWS...*blaarf*...Okey dokey then, all better.

Mean-Eyed Cat

Happy stinkin' friday the 13th! I hope none of you are going to see the new Friday the 13th movie today, tomorrow or ever, but instead protest yet another remake abomination and rent the crappy original movie, in all it's awesomely cheesy 1980-ness. Impress your invisible friends with this random fact about today: Paraskevidekatriaphobia is the fear of friday the 13th. Seriously. People apparently have this disorder. I will use it in a sentence today: "I'm not one to judge or be critical, but Paraskevidekatriaphobics are weenies."

Second order of bizness: time to announce the winner of the wonderfully wrong cat vase pot-holding candy dish pencil holder planter dealie! Sparkleneely, you are one lucky beotch and are now the proud owner of Creepy Cat! (Drop me an email with your info and it'll be on it's way.) Your house just got a little bit tackier, and I couldn't be prouder that I had a part in that.

Thanks to everyone who made this monumental occasion seriously entertaining and sending some hilarious emails ("does said cat that you put your weed in come with said weed and if not, why?" Good freaking stuff, people.)

Stay tuned for next month's giveaway which will be St. Patrick's Day related, when I'll be giving out an indentured leprechaun to do your evil bidding and if bribed with enough Guinness, your laundry.
